Apple Releases Critical iOS 18.3.1 Update: Security Patch to Protect iPhones from Physical Exploits

Just days after the release of iOS 18.3, Apple has rolled out an urgent security update—iOS 18.3.1—designed to address a critical vulnerability that could leave iPhones exposed to physical security threats. This update, released on Monday, is crucial for safeguarding user data and ensuring device integrity.

A Vital Security Fix

For users already on iOS 18.3, the iOS 18.3.1 update is approximately 450 MB in size and primarily focuses on patching a newly discovered zero-day exploit. This vulnerability could potentially allow unauthorized access to an iPhone through a physical attack, effectively disabling USB Restricted Mode. Apple acknowledged the severity of this issue, stating:

“A physical attack may disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”

By applying this update, Apple ensures that even in the event of a physical security breach, unauthorized access through USB connections is blocked.
